A Level company - serving Clifton, NJ

DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning Service Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Why Clifton Homeowners Choose DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning

DuraFlex in Clifton chimney cleaning typically runs $189-$289 for a standard single-flue sweep, depending on liner condition and creosote stage. We’re an independent DuraFlex service provider - not manufacturer-authorized - but our crews work on these liners weekly across Clifton, and every job includes a camera inspection and written price before a brush touches the flue. If you own a home in Botany Village or Athenia with a DuraFlex liner installed in the last decade, call (551) 282-9640 and we’ll tell you exactly what’s going on inside it.

Why Trust Level Two Chimney Clifton for Your DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning?

Here’s what actually matters with DuraFlex: the liner is only as good as the hands that service it. We’ve pulled too many torn aluminum liners out of Clifton chimneys where someone ran a metal brush down a flexible flue and shredded the inner wall. DuraFlex AL is 0.005 inches thick. A steel-wire brush doesn’t care. Neither does the creosote it’s supposed to remove, but the liner sure does.

Corrine Halstead, our owner, learned the trade through the building trades program at CUNY Kingsborough Community College and put in years on job sites across the metro area before taking over Level Two Chimney Clifton. She’s been running cameras and writing up findings in Clifton for several years now, and her rule is simple: the camera doesn’t guess. Neither do we. Every DuraFlex liner we touch gets photographed from the top, the bottom, and every offset in between. That photo record is yours to keep, and it’s been our standard since 2009.

We work with DuraFlex AL, SS, Pro rigid, and Smooth Wall liners constantly. We know the support spacing specs. We know which brush materials are safe for which liner type. And we know that in Clifton’s 1920s-1940s colonials and split-levels, the original masonry flue almost always has tighter offsets than the liner was designed for, which creates sag points you can’t see from the fireplace opening.

Common DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning Problems We Fix in Clifton

Common DuraFlex Chimney Cleaning Problems We Fix in Clifton

These are the issues we find most often when we run a camera through DuraFlex liners in Clifton homes. None of them show up on a visual inspection from the firebox.

  • Torn or kinked inner liner from metal brushing. DuraFlex AL and SS flexible liners have thin inner walls that a standard wire chimney brush will shred. We’ve seen 6-foot tears running the length of a liner where someone “cleaned” it with the wrong tool. The fix is usually a section replacement, not a patch. In Clifton homes where the original flue tiles are still behind the liner, those tears also let creosote and moisture reach the old masonry, accelerating spalling.
  • Corrosion pinholes at the tee connection. Gas-fired systems in Clifton’s converted oil-to-gas homes run cooler exhaust than the liners were sometimes sized for. Acidic condensate collects at the tee, and we regularly find pinholes there within 8-12 years of install. A camera shows them as tiny bright spots when the light hits the metal at the right angle. The repair is a new tee section and often a condensate drain; ignoring it means carbon monoxide migrating into the chase.
  • Sagged or flattened sections behind offsets. Clifton’s older colonials have flues built for coal, with steep offsets that leave flexible liners hanging unsupported. DuraFlex specifies support straps at set intervals. When installers skip those or use too few, the liner sags, creosote pools at the bottom of the sag, and eventually the weight flattens the section. Last month our crew pulled a DuraFlex AL liner from a 1980s Clifton split-level where the homeowner had been burning unseasoned pine. The flexible liner had a 30-degree sag behind the fireplace offset holding a hard, shiny creosote plug. We swept the liner with a poly brush, rodded out the tee, and reset the support straps to DuraFlex spacing before reinstalling the cap. Airflow returned to spec that same visit.
  • Improper support spacing causing creosote traps. Even without a visible sag, support straps spaced too far apart let the liner flex and shift with thermal expansion. Creosote builds in the ripples. In wood-burning Clifton fireplaces, that creosote can reach Class III - hard, shiny, and fuel-rich. A standard sweep won’t remove it; we use a poly brush followed by a chemical treatment where needed.
  • Blown-out liner at the crown tie-in. Clifton’s freeze-thaw cycles are brutal on the top plate and crown assembly where the liner terminates. Water gets in, freezes, and separates the liner from the crown flashing. We rebuild those tie-ins with a proper top plate and storm collar, and resurface the crown with a flexible sealant rated for our freeze-thaw swings.

DuraFlex Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach

We install OEM DuraFlex components when they’re available and cost-effective, but we’re not married to a single supplier. Where corrosion or weird sizing requires a hybrid approach, we use quality aftermarket fittings that match the liner’s diameter and material spec. Nobody sees the brand name inside the flue; they see whether the system drafts and whether the camera comes back clean.

Our repair standard is blunt: if the damaged section is less than 40% of the total liner run, we rebuild or replace only the failed part. If it’s more, a full reline is safer and more honest than stacking patches. We stock common DuraFlex AL and SS diameters locally for fast turnaround, plus tee assemblies, top plates, and storm collars. That means most Duraflex repair in Garfield and Clifton repairs are done same-week, not two weeks out waiting on a shipped part.

If you’ve got a written estimate from another company recommending a full reline, bring it to us. We’ll put a camera down and show you exactly what we see, then give you a written second opinion. Call (551) 282-9640 and ask for that inspection.

Our DuraFlex Service Process - Step by Step

Our DuraFlex Service Process - Step by Step

Every DuraFlex liner we touch in Clifton goes through the same documented process. It’s the Level Two standard, and it’s why our 365-Day Done Right Promise has teeth.

  1. 1
Camera diagnosis. We run a camera down the full liner run from the cap to the tee. You see the footage. We point out sag points, tears, creosote class, and any water entry. This is NFPA 211 Level 2 inspection, and it’s included on every visit, not an upsell.
  2. 2
Written scope and price. Before anything is disassembled, you get a written scope of work and a written price. Haven Standard Clause 1: have it in writing. No verbal estimates that shift when the invoice arrives.
  3. 3
Repair or sweep. We use liner-safe poly brushes on flexible DuraFlex sections - never metal. For rigid Pro stainless, we’ll use the appropriate brush density. We reset support straps to DuraFlex spacing, replace tee sections where pinholes show, and rebuild crown tie-ins as needed.
  4. 4
Post-work camera verification. The camera goes back down after the work. You see the before and after. The photo record is yours, filed under Haven Standard Clause 4, and it’s been our practice since 2009.
  5. 5
Written warranty. Every job gets a written warranty covering the specific work performed. The 365-Day Done Right Promise is stamped on it: if it’s not done right, we make it right.

DuraFlex Products We Service & Install in Clifton

We service the full DuraFlex lineup you’re likely to find in Clifton homes, and we also offer Duraflex service in Passaic: the AL aluminum flexible liner, SS stainless flexible liner, Pro stainless rigid liner, and Smooth Wall flexible liner. We also install all of them where a reline is the right fix. We stock common 5.5-inch and 6-inch diameters locally, along with the tee assemblies, top plates, storm collars, and caps those installs require. If your chimney is a two-flue stack serving separate heating systems for two units - common in Clifton’s two-family neighborhoods - we’ll schedule both flues on the same appointment and carry enough liner material to do the full stack in one visit.

We Also Service These Brands

We Also Service These Brands

DuraFlex is a big part of our Clifton work, but it’s not the only liner we see. We service and install HeatShield cerfractory systems and Gelco liners regularly, and we’ll give you the same written-price, camera-documented standard on any of them. The brand inside the flue matters less than whether it’s safe and drafted right.
